CAPABLE LOGISTICIAN 2013 launched

Foreign units are gradually arriving to take part in the large scale multinational military logistics exercise of the North Atlantic Alliance, which is held on 8 – 26 June in a military training area Lešť, Slovakia. 1,750 soldiers and nearly 600 pcs of military equipment will take part in the exercise, both in the air and on the ground. 35 NATO countries, EU countries, Partnership for Peace, to include Russia, India, Portugal and other partner countries, as well as 14 NATO and EU agencies evinced interest in taking part in the exercise, whereby the exercise can be ranked among the largest exercises held since the end of World War II.

Some elements of the exercise have already been put in operation, namely the exercise director staff and exercise control staff (EXDIR and EXCON, respectively), as well as the Joint Logistics Support Group staff (JLSG), which directly control the activities of the deployed forces. The Slovak and Czech specialists operate in all of the above mentioned elements since the exercise is planned and coordinated by the Multinational Logistics Coordination Centre based in Prague. Equally, fully operational are also all the support elements, which Slovakia as a Host Nation must ensure. The individual staffs, e.g. Reception Staging Onward Movement (RSOM) or Movement and Transportation staff take responsibility for the first stage of deployment.
The exercise is aimed at coordination and development of the joint logistics procedures among the countries involved, in compliance with NATO standards, and at testing and verification of compatibility and interoperability of the logistic systems and assets. The main goal is to develop interoperability among the armed forces of the participating countries. The exercise provides a unique opportunity for members of the Slovak Armed Forces to acquire new experience and contacts, and it contributes to promote our training capabilities in a multinational environment. The Slovak party provides a wide scale support to as much as 600 persons within the exercise Capable Logistician 2013.

The exercise will culminate by the Distinguished Visitors Day to be held on 20 June in Lešť. The representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance and members of the NATO Military Committee will take part in said event. The President of the SR, V4 defence ministers and ChoDs and the other distinguished guest from abroad and from Slovakia are expected to grace the event with their presence.
