Ministry of Defence of the SR is determined to stabilize the Military Repair Plant in Trenčín (VOP) and to invite a public tender for a strategic partner for a term of 20 years. The sale of the plant is not considered, just a long-term lease. The Minister of Defence of the SR Martin Glváč informed the employees in person of the changes to be introduced and of the main goal to be achieved through these changes, that is to reduce dependence of the plant on orders by defence department and to avoid or minimize redundancies. Strategic partnership shall ensure maintaining the employment and as such is regarded by the trade unions as the best practicable solution.
"I have promised to inform in advance the employees of any change in respect of the plant’s existence. Inclusion of a strategic partner has proved to be an effective strategy in the Military Repair Plant Nováky, whereby its collapse was prevented," explained the Minister of Defence.
The public tender for a strategic partner for VOP Trenčín will be held in two rounds and will be open for companies with a valid authorization to trade in the field of defence industry products.
The commission assessing and evaluating the bids set as the decisive criteria the yearly rate of the rent, the cost of acquisition of the circulating assets to be sold and a number of jobs a candidate shall undertake to maintain for a period of 5 years. "Our primary focus is on maintaining employment so that the people do not lose their jobs," stressed the Head of Defence Department. "We do guarantee a maximum transparency of the tender," he added.
VOP Trenčín, j.s.c., has currently 323 employees. It specializes in repairs and maintenance of the wheeled equipment, in production of chassis and support frames for buses and foundations for field hospital containers. By the end of the year it shall have fulfilled the orders by the department of defence. Should the tender be successful, the inclusion of a strategic partner is allowed for as from 1 January 2014. "We view this as the only possible logical option and hope the things will end up well," said Marián Lacko, the Chairman of the Slovak Trade Unions of the defence employees in respect of the changes to be taken.
