Last Slovak Leaves the Afghan Province Uruzgan

On 14 July 2013, the six-year engagement of members of the Slovak Armed Forces in the Afghan province Uruzgan was definitely terminated when the last rotation of the Slovak soldiers departed from the Military Advisory Team on the base Tarin Kowt.
The supreme commanders of the units serving in the region, the Commander of the Combined Team Uruzgan (CTU) Colonel Simon Stuart and the Commander of the 2nd Cavalry Task Group (2CAV TG) Lieutenant Colonel Michael Bye, came to say good-bye to the departing team.
The Slovak soldiers have operated in the region since 2008 in several fields, starting from the forward operating base (FOB) and protection of multinational base through province reconstruction teams’ activities to the training and mentoring of the Afghan security forces.
