The Slovak and Polish Republics aspire to forge closer ties in the field of defence. This was voiced by SVK Minister of Defence Martin Glváč and Polish Minister of National Defence Tomasz Siemoniak during their discussions in Krakow. “In this time of declining defence spending, solutions beneficial to both countries must be sought after,” said Martin Glváč. His interest in forging a closer defence relationship was also declared by Polish Minister Siemoniak who said that “We view the Slovak Republic as a close partner. Our cooperation is built on solid foundations, we cooperate within the V4 countries, NATO, the European Union, and we share similar opinions.” The Ministers' intent to forge closer cooperation ties should be affirmed by the upcoming intergovernmental agreement on the development of defence cooperation. Furthermore, the Ministers discussed cooperation in joint V4 projects. “We will pursue their implementation even during the Slovak Republic's chairmanship of the Visegrad Group, which Slovakia is due to assume on 1 July 2014,” said Martin Glváč.
