Exhibition on the Great War

On Thursday, 21 August, Miloš Koterec, State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence, and Maj Gen Pavel Macko, 2nd Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the SVK Armed Forces, visited Bratislava Castle to participate in an exhibition-opening ceremony: The First World War: A Tragedy That Befell All of Us.

Even today it is important to realize what caused this tragedy and how devastating its consequences were,” said Miloš Koterec, commenting on the world conflict, which, originally known as the Great War, claimed 10 million victims and twice as many were injured. He went on to highlight the richness and diversity of the exhibition, which offers, to its visitors, hundreds of exhibits and documents with erudite commentaries on display. “This is the first time that the Slovak National Museum, the Slovak National Archive and the Institute of Military History have cooperated together on a project to such a great extent,” concluded Col Miloslav Čaplovič, Director of Institute of Military History. The exhibition at Bratislava Castle will be held until February 2015.
