First timers at commando course in CZ REP

Since 2005 a 30-day Commando Course, the toughest type of training provided by our Western neighbour, has been held in the Czech Republic biannually on a regular basis. Organized by the Military Academy in Brno, the course takes place in the training facility in Vyškov and at a nearby military training area.

This year, for the first time, our Czech counterparts have offered to Slovakia the opportunity to participate in the course. Towards this end, members of the SVK Land Forces (LFs) were put through their paces, physically and mentally, during a competitive selection process at the Lešť Training Centre on 18-22 August. Ranked from Corporal to Lieutenant, Land Forces members engaged in a number of tests evaluating their physical readiness, specialized, tactical, firing and practical military climbing skills. The event was supervised by representatives of the course’s organizer, 1st Lt Jan Kratochvíl and WO-2 Václav Přichystal. Thanks to them, individual testing disciplines faithfully copied what would be waiting for the three best Slovak candidates at the military training area near Vyškov. The Commando Course, aimed at developing the leadership skills of small-sized unit commanders in a realistic tactical environment under the conditions of psychological and physical stress, will test the overall readiness of its participants. Only a small percentage of them graduate from the course (10 – 15 per cent) and are entitled to wear the “Commando” uniform patch.
