Tribute to RAF pilots

A remembrance ceremony was held in Čunovo to pay tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of the crew members of Wellington bomber MF 458 'A' of the 40th squadron of the Royal Air Force which was shot down 70 years ago, on 5 October 1944. The ceremony was graced with the presence of Lt Gen Milan Maxim, Chief of the General Staff of the SVK Armed Forces; Andy Garth, British Ambassador; Col Andrew Shepherd, UK Defence Attaché and the representatives of the defence department, military attaches and relatives of the 5 members of the crew. The newly appointed British Ambassador Andy Garth expressed his acknowledgement to the Slovak Department of Defence for a dignified course of the ceremony, with the Guard of Honour of the SVK Armed Forces contributing to the solemn atmosphere, as well as the military music band and a fly-past of L410 aircraft of the Slovak Air Force.
