Swedish Minister’s visit

Military and technical cooperation and supersonic aviation were the issues raised at the meeting of SVK Minister of Defence Martin Glváč and Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Hultqvist. As stated by Minister Glváč, modernization of supersonic aviation is one of the top priorities, which could be resolved by a lease of flying hours.

To-date, the Swedish party is the only one submitting the most balanced variant, namely a lease of flying hours. We are currently discussing all the possibilities. The visit of the Swedish Minister of Defence therefore triggers negotiations on a possibility to provide flying hours,” said Minister Glváč.

Such cooperation would cover not only the aircraft but also training, repair and maintenance and other related aspects,” added Peter Hultqvist.

Minister of Defence Glváč added that a similar pattern of a lease of flying hours is already being used in the Czech Republic. This pattern seems to carry a significant advantage also in terms of a planned project to provide for a joint protection and safeguarding of the Slovak and Czech airspace.

Ministers of defence also addressed the foreign policy issues. “We have exchanged our views on foreign policy, on cooperation of our defence departments, on the Ukraine crisis, on fight against terrorism and on our engagement in missions and operations,” highlighted Minister Glváč.
