Joint strategy of V4

The countries of the Visegrad Group currently develop a joint strategy in the field of training and exercises. This will be discussed at the meeting of ministers of defence of V4 countries, which is to be held at the end of April in Bratislava. During the Slovak Presidency, every effort is made to complete development of the Action Plan of V4 Defence Cooperation, which should be endorsed by ministers of defence in Bratislava.

We cooperate in the field of training and exercises on a long term basis. During our presidency, we have organized the exercise Ground Pepper, which was held in October 2014 in Lešť. However, it is important to clearly define the scope and frequency of similar exercises,” explained Martin Glváč.

In Bratislava, ministers of defence will discuss further possibilities of cooperation in the field of defence planning, and will evaluate the progress achieved in the field of formation of the V4 EU Battle Group, which is to be in the state of combat readiness in the first half of 2016. They will also explore possibilities of mutual cooperation to meet the commitments and obligations resulting from NATO Wales Summit, in particular with respect to the Readiness Action Plan.

During the Slovak V4 Presidency, on 9 December 2014, prime ministers endorsed Declaration on enhancing defence cooperation, whereby the ministers of defence were charged with a task to continue efforts to form a permanent V4 modular force, which could be used as a Visegrad contribution to NATO Response Force and EU Rapid Reaction Force.
