Upon agreement between the SVK and HUN Land Forces Commanders, a joint training exercise took place at Lake Black Water. “We are interested to learn more about the Hungarian divers’ expertise in the field of EOD, because we are planning to train our EOD specialists in the same area. The joint training exercise is of great significance with regard to the TISA international project, which involves both our militaries,” emphasized Lt Col Dalibor Jelinek, Sereď-based Engineer Battalion Commander.
The SVK divers carried out assignments alongside their Hungarian counterparts, with the exercising troops drawn from the Szentes-based Engineer Battalion and the Budapest-based 1st Combat Warship Regiment. With the water temperature of the dredging lake at 3 degrees Celsius, the divers of both countries were conducting a range of assignments. As part of them, they had to use circular and skirmish line search formations and mark the found objects below the surface. And this all had to be done in low visibility conditions.
Last year the Sereď-based engineers paid a visit to their Hungarian colleagues and familiarized themselves with their training base and the divers’ training scheme. Maj Attila Márfi, the commander of the Hungarian divers, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation: “It brings benefits to both sides. That’s why we want to continue with this collaboration and are looking for further opportunities to enrich it.”
