The Slovak Republic could see its defence cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deepening after more than 15 years. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, conveyed, during his meeting with SVK Minister of Defence Martin Glváč and Chief of the SVK General Staff Lt Gen Milan Maxim, his interest in the Lešť Training Centre. This cutting-edge training facility offers a wide spectrum of combat training capabilities. The head of the SVK MOD is Slovakia’s first representative to have held talks with His Highness Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“The Crown Prince and I discussed the cooperation possibilities in the field of training. He was particularly interested in the state-of-the-art Lešť Training Area, where he can fancy training his troops. This could definitely lead to an interesting cooperation,” said SVK Minister of Defence Glváč. He went on to emphasize that both parties are committed to doing their maximum to ensure that this cooperation will be successful. That’s why they agreed to set up an Interdepartmental Council, tasked with bringing this cooperation to a successful end. According to Minister Glváč, the interest in the Lešť Training Area serves as a piece of evidence that the investments of the SVK MOD’s current leadership in the Lešť Training Centre have paid off.
During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, which took place upon invitation of His Highness General Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, the SVK Minister of Defence attended the International Defence Exhibition and Conference, IDEX 2015, in Abu Dhabi.
The Middle East’s largest international defence equipment exhibition hosted the SVK Armed Forces and the Lešť Training Centre for the first time ever. The SVK defence companies joined the world’s leading defence and security companies in showcasing their products. “Slovakia’s defence manufacturers deserve our support in the international environment, because they are capable of offering competitive products,” stressed Minister Glváč, reminding that the SVK Government is committed to supporting the development of the defence industry sector in line with the Government Manifesto Goals.
