Remembering the Nováky incident

Miloš Koterec, the State Secretary of the SVK MOD, commemorated the 8th anniversary of the tragic event that occurred at the Military Repair Plant Nováky (MRP Nováky). A total of eight employees died in the explosion and dozens were injured. “Another court hearing on this tragic incident was underway early last month and I believe the final court ruling will be made in a short period of time,” said M. Koterec. The March 2007 explosion inside the ammunition disassembly hall destroyed much of the company’s facilities. Following the tragedy, the economic situation turned out to be unfavourable in the long term. In an effort to stabilize the MRP Nováky and preserve the employment levels, the SVK MOD’s current leadership leased the MRP for a period of 20 years to a strategic partner, which was selected in a public bidding process.
