The last but one week of April, the Chaplain General of the SVK Armed Forces and Armed Corps Ecumenical Pastoral Service, Col Marian Bodolló, and the Chairman of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Slovakia and Bishop General of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession, Miloš Klátik, visited the Slovak soldiers serving with the UNFICYP mission in Cyprus and met with the UNFICYP Force Commander, Maj Gen Kristin Lund of Norway.
In Camp Štefánik, the military base of Slovak soldiers in Cyprus, they met with the Commander of the 159-member-strong Slovak Contingent, Lt Col Jaroslav Bital. They received a tour of the Slovak observation posts in the zone of separation, which separates the Republic of Cyprus from the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. On 25 April, they met with the UNFICYP Force Commander, Maj Gen Kristin Lund, in the center of Nicosia at a memorial ceremony, where the Commonwealth member states pay tribute to the fallen in WWI. At the UNIFICYP Headquarters, they were welcomed by the UNFICYP Chief of Staff, Col Tim Wildish (UK), with whom they discussed chaplaincy services in the armed forces.
Miloš Klátik, the first Bishop General of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession to visit UNIFICYP, expressed his gratitude to the Slovak soldiers for their service in favor of peace.
