NATO’s largest exercise is being attended by our communications and information systems specialists

Slovak communications and information systems (CIS) specialists are providing support to communications systems for this year’s largest Allied exercise, Trident Juncture 2015, in Spain. From the beginning of September to mid-November, a total of 24 Slovak service personnel, of Ružomberok-based Deployable Communications Module (DCM-C Ružomberok), are operating in support of this exercise in Zaragoza, Spain.

They have deployed on the exercise at the request of the North Atlantic Alliance. The main task of our communications and information systems specialists is to build and support the operation of the information environment in the area of deployment of Allied troops,” explained SVK Minister of Defence Martin Glváč.

Engagement of our troops under Joint Task Forces is not a novelty, they have proved their quality during their deployments, whether in Afghanistan or Turkey,” added Lt Gen Milan Maxim, Chief of the General Staff of the SVK Armed Forces.

Exercise Trident Juncture 2015 is the largest Allied military exercise to be unfolding in the Western Mediterranean this year. The exercise is attended by soldiers from all NATO Member States and seven Partnership for Peace (PfP) countries.

The DCM-C deployable communications module, which is permanently based at the Mobile and Communications Systems Base Ružomberok, is part of the 3rd NATO Signals Battalion (3NSB) and is one of the first NATO units to have been permanently based in Slovakia.

The current communications and information systems are designed to transfer audial, visual and data information in real time while enforcing the most stringent standards for transfer of classified information so as to support the command and control of deployed units, because the old military saying – “No connection, no command!” – applies today even more than ever before.
