Farewell to I. Gablech

In Havlíčkův Brod, a final farewell ceremony was held in honour of Slovak WWII pilot Brig Gen Imrich Gablech, who passed away at the age of 101 on 16 December. In attendance at the funeral ceremony were the State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence, Róbert Ondrejcsák, the 2nd Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Maj Gen Jindřich Joch, and the Director of the Institute of Military History, Col Miloslav Čaplovič. Imrich Gablech was a recipient of numerous Slovak, Czech and foreign military awards and decorations. To mark his 100th birthday jubilee, last year he was promoted to Brigadier General in the Czech Republic. On 21 December 2016, Chief of the General Staff Gen Milan Maxim awarded him, posthumously, the Memorial Cross of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, 1st Grade.
