New Year greeted with gun salutes

To mark the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak Republic and its Armed Forces, soldiers from the Rocket Launcher Detachment Rožňava fired, in the presence of Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and 1st Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lt Gen Pavel Macko, 20 artillery gun salutes from Bratislava's Tyršovo Embankment. On this occasion, the Minister of Defence wished the Slovak citizens a successful 2017, good heath, and much happiness, peace and quiet. Consistent with the Order of the President of the Slovak Republic who acts as the Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces, the gun salutes were fired from 6 122mm HD-30A howitzers. The event for the public was supported by approx. 50 soldiers. The Military Police played a role in securing the protection of the area.
