Replacement of vehicles approved

The Security Council and Government of the Slovak Republic approved a document on supporting the projects to procure 8×8 combat armoured vehicles and 4×4 multi role tactical vehicles. The overall value of the modernisation programme, which will run up to 2029, is estimated at nearly €1.2 billion.
“Recently, the modernisation programme was mainly focused on SVK Air Force assets, however, we are convinced that the modernisation programme must be in balance. Admittedly, the assets in service with the SVK Land Forces call for a substantial replacement too,” said the Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš. He reassured that the entire process will go ahead with maximum transparency and that the MOD will keep the public updated continuously. “Now it is our task to prepare the procurement projects in a way that we get our domestic defence industry involved to the maximum extent possible,” as laid down in the SVK Government Manifesto Commitments.
According to the approved document, the procurement costs for the 8×8 vehicles are estimatedat €417 million and for the 4×4 vehicles at €782.7 million. The purchases are to be made gradually between 2018 and 2029.
