CBRN troops from 10 countries are on exercise in Slovakia

The Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Training and Testing Centre (CBRN TTC) Zemianske Kostoľany is holding the 5th iteration of the international Toxic Valley 2017 exercise. A total of 168 CBRN specialists in toxic chemicals from 10 countries will train in Slovakia until 29 September 2017.

The aim of the exercise is to train teams with the specialisations for taking samples and mobile identification labs in identifying toxic and toxic industrial chemicals in compliance with NATO standards. CBRN TTC is unique insofar as it enables CBRN troops to train with real chemicals.

The exercising troops are to encounter scenarios with challenges to test their specialist and tactical readiness. CBRN TTC allows troops to practise and align their procedures for taking samples, identifying toxic chemicals, carrying out coordination of teams in executing specialist tasks with real toxic chemicals and subsequent decontamination.

The exercise is being attended by members of the Armed Forces from Slovakia, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and the USA. Observers are from Germany and the United Kingdom.

Activities are divided into two parts, Phase 1 – Exercise for CBRN Sampling Teams is scheduled to run until 22 September 2017, and Phase 2 – Exercise for Mobile Chemical Identification Laboratories crews to practise their skills is scheduled to be carried out from 25 to 29 September 2017.
