SVK President Andrej Kiska appreciates the intention to get as many Slovak companies involved in the procurement of armoured vehicles as possible

SVK President Andrej Kiska, who is concurrently Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces, appreciates that the SVK Government and the MOD are considering getting as many SVK producers involved in the procurement of combat as possible. In addition, he underscored the necessity to modernise the SVK Armed Forces and to keep the entire process transparent. He said this in a statement following today's meeting with SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and other MOD leaders.
At the meeting, the Minister informed the President of the procurement process for the combat vehicles, whereas the document itself will be subject to debate in the SVK Security Council and Government before being introduced to the public. “I want to emphasise that we should participate in the manufacture of the 8x8 platforms by up to 70 per cent and, if developments remain favourable, in the manufacture of the 4x4 platforms by up to 80 per cent,” said Head of the MOD, while underlining that the Slovak Republic will be the 100 per cent owner of the products, which means that it will be able to sell them abroad.
“I have informed President Kiska of the ways in which we are going to implement the Long-Term Defence Development Plan with Emphasis on Building and Developing the SVK Armed Forces with an Outlook to 2030, which has been endorsed by the SVK Government,” added the Minister. The document envisages defence spending estimates of 1.6 % of GDP by 2020 and 2 % of GDP by 2024.
In his statement, the President highlighted that the solution is supported by an analysis conducted by the Value for Money Unit, of the SVK Finance Ministry. “Modernisation is a commitment towards our citizens, towards the defence readiness of our country, and towards our Allies,” emphasised SVK President A. Kiska.
