Shortly after 10:00hrs on Friday (16 February), a SVK government airliner brought home the remains of the deceased Slovak serviceman Major Peter Pavlovský, who died after a rapid deterioration in his health condition in a local hospital in Sarajevo.
SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said:
“First of all, I would like to express my most profound condolences to the next of kin of the deceased. For a Minister of Defence I cannot imagine a sadder situation than this one. Major Pavlovský served with the SVK Armed Forces all his professional life – for 24 years. He was a highly responsible and conscientious professional. Honour to his memory!”
Besides Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš, Chief of Defence General Maxim and Deputy Commander SVK GS Crisis Management Strategic Centre Col Jozef Svitka, too, came to Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) to pay their homage to Major Pavlovský.
General Milan Maxim, Chief of Defence, said:
“The loss of our colleague, friend and soldier in the service to his country touches us profoundly. He was a young man and his loss is palpable to us and even more to his family, friends and colleagues. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to them.”
Lt Col Daniel Draganovský, Commander SLOVCON EUFOR ALTHEA, said:
“We have lost a colleague who was highly responsible and reliable and who always performed his duties to the highest standard.”
Major Peter Pavlovský served as an active duty soldier in the SVK Armed Forces for 24 years. His previous posting was as Chief Senior Officer to SVK Land Forces HQ. He completed two tours of Afghanistan in support of ISAF and Resolute Support as part of crisis management operations. In August 2017, he deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina for a year-long tour of duty in EUFOR ALTHEA.
Colleagues in Defence and the general public are invited to visit MOD Main Building and SVK Land Forces HQ Trenčín to pay tribute to the memory of Major Peter Pavlovský at the Hall of Fame and the condolence room in Bratislava and Trenčín, respectively.
