SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš today received the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Gregor Kozovinc, at MOD Main Building. This has been his first visit to the MOD since taking up his Diplomatic Service appointment in Slovakia. Topics of discussion included bilateral defence cooperation activities, exchange of experience from international crisis management missions and operations, activities in support of partner defence capabilities, multilateral issues, and mutual support to EU and NATO initiatives.
Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Slovakia and Slovenia have been bound by a long-standing partnership, one that is based on long-term bilateral cooperation and mutual support to the international organisations and groupings we have been part of. The activities Slovakia and Slovenia want to concentrate on this year are set out in the 2018 Bilateral Cooperation Development Plan.”
During the meeting, Minister Gajdoš presented Slovakiaʼs intention to deploy SVK personnel to NATOʼs enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup in Latvia, where also the SVN Armed Forces are currently stationed.
Minister Gajdoš informed Ambassador Kozovinc of Slovakiaʼs gradual increase in defence expenditure and the ongoing modernisation processes in the Armed Forces, as reflected in the national strategic documents. He underscored the active CBRN cooperation with SVN troops and their regular participation in SVK-held exercises. On the Special Operations Forces (SOF) cooperation, he suggested conducting SOF mountain training alternately in Slovakia and Slovenia. Also discussed was PESCO and Slovakiaʼs “EuroArtillery” project. Talks on joint cooperation will continue next week at the Central European Defence Cooperation (CEDC) meeting, which will be held after the V4 Ministerial in Budapest.
