SVK MOD pays tribute to the memory of M. R. Štefánik, he died in a tragic accident 99 years ago

State Secretary of the SVK MOD Róbert Ondrejcsák and leaders of the SVK Armed Forces participated in a ceremony at the Tomb of M. R. Štefánik in Ivanka pri Dunaji, to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the death of General Štefánik.

In his remarks at the place of commemoration, State Secretary Róbert Ondrejcsák said:“This year we commemorate the 99th anniversary of the passing away of Milan Rastislav Štefánik and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic, which was an island of democracy after World War I. Indeed, this mirrors General Štefánik’s personality as a European citizen and a democrat. I am convinced that should he live today, he would be an advocate of these values and would safeguard the foundations and principles of democracy, freedom, and Slovakia’s pro-Western orientation.”

The life of General Štefánik was extinguished prematurely on Sunday on 4 May 1919. The aircraft of the first and the last Czechoslovak Minister of War crashed unexpectedly on landing near Ivanka pri Dunaji and the entire crew perished in the accident.
