Slovakia gives its support to the Action Plan on Military Mobility, which aims to simplify military movements throughout the European Union. This announcement was made by SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš after todayʼs informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers in Sofia, Bulgaria. Ministers discussed further steps to implement the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) projects and to streamline international crisis management activities.
SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Implementation of the PESCO projects is among our priorities in the sense that it follows through with action to fulfil the EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy. Participation in joint projects means using financial resources effectively and increasing the security and defence capability of EU Member States. We welcome the PESCO project of Military Mobility, because this initiative is to remove different obstacles, be it administrative or physical, to delivering necessary military transport. It aims to facilitate quick and efficient cross border movements of troops and materiel for the purpose of increasing responsiveness in the event of a crisis situation.”
The governance rules for the PESCO projects and the fulfilment of the PESCO commitments were addressed as well. The working session on streamlining international crisis management activities and harmonising UN, NATO and EU activities in this field was attended, amongst others, by NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller.
As part of the informal EU defence ministerial, the European Defence Agencyʼs ministerial Steering Board meeting gave Ministers an opportunity to discuss EDAʼs future heading and to approve EDAʼs activities in the EUʼs current security and defence initiatives for the upcoming period.
