Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš calls on Milan Krajniak MP to provide evidence for his allegations of kickbacks over the procurement of the 8x8 platforms no later than Friday morning (11 May 2018). Otherwise, the MOD is to file a criminal defamation complaint on Friday. “I must respond and strongly condemn the false statements and attacks from Milan Krajniak MP. All what he said today were only his personal assumptions and no arguments whatsoever. I would like to remind him that if he has any evidence of corrupt practices, he is obliged to submit it to law enforcement authorities, otherwise he himself is participating in committing a criminal offence,” said Minister Gajdoš.
Head of the MOD pointed out that, according to the opposition MP, when politicians take bribes somewhere in the world, this must be a rule of thumb in Slovakia too. He further added that the Government-sponsored document on the procurement of 8x8 and 4x4 vehicles does not specify any companies that Konštrukta Defence, the state-owned prime contractor company, will cooperate with, nor does it exclude anyone from cooperation.
SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš stated: “Milan Krajniak MP is talking about a purchase, but we are purchasing nothing. We’ve been into development work. We are proud that we will have our own vehicle. We understand the concerns of Milan Krajniak MP and other lobbyists, but our vehicle will have better technical specifications than those of other vehicles, and we will become competitive with any defence manufacturers not only in our region but also worldwide.”
Milan Krajniak MP also misused the Presidential Office, which officially denied mentioning any kickbacks. Similarly, he prejudged the conclusions of the 8x8 platform military trails. “We still do not have the official conclusions, but most of the tests show positive results,” said the Minister. At the same time, the Minister denied any links of the Slovak National Party to any business.
General Secretary of the MOD’s Service Office Ján Hoľko said that the opposition MP uses half-truths to protect his political interests. “Just tell me, how come he asks questions like “What have the SNS nominees been doing in the Ministry of Defence?” And his answer is, “They have been working on some project secretly for two years.” No arguments, no facts,” emphasised the Secretary General. He pointed out that in addition to soiling the SNS Party’s reputation, the MP hurts Slovakia. “Never ever have I seen a person criticising another one developing one’s own product in this way. This is only possible in Slovakia. The opposition MPs and all analysts are in agreement that the project is inviable, that it won’t work, and that it won’t get the go-ahead,” he stated.
