Minister Gajdoš has filed a criminal complaint against Milan Krajniak MP for spreading lies in connection with the procurement of 8x8 vehicles

SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš has today (11 May) filed a criminal complaint with Police against Milan Krajniak for his statement for a Finnish TV channel, where he spoke of kickbacks over the procurement of 8x8 vehicles without providing any evidence. Despite the Minister’s previous demand that he apologise, he has not done so to date, nor has he provided any evidence to support his assertions. On the contrary, the opposition MP insists on his false assertions and has repeated them for Slovak media and in a politically defaming blog, with the aim of damaging the reputation of the SVK MOD and the Slovak National Party (SNS).

The MOD formally declares that Patria was not selected beforehand from among the potential bidders and no business transaction has been effected to date. The entire process has been transparent from the very beginning, but we cannot tolerate criminalizing this serious procurement procedure. The Minister of Defence will abstain from assessing the opposition MP’s political aim, but he wishes to repeat that if any person has information about any criminal offence, he should come forward and inform law enforcement agencies. However, it is worth pausing and thinking about it when an MP, a public figure, gives an interview to a foreign TV channel, where he provides unfounded information without any admissible evidence with the only aim of gaining political preferences and points, regardless of what damage he may cause to Slovakia.

If Mr Krajniak apologises, the MOD will be ready to negotiate an out-of-court settlement.
