General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy has another professor – Marcel Harakaľ

Acting on the recommendation of SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš, SVK President Andrej Kiska has today announced the promotion of doc. [Rdr] Ing. [MScEng] Marcel Harakaľ Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Sciences at the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš, to Professor of Military Signals and Information Systems.
On the importance of quality teaching staff and education for cadets to achieve high professional standards, Minister Gajdoš said: “I am delighted that the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš offers the best possibilities for educating future soldiers, which is conditioned by quality teaching staff. I offer my congratulations to Prof. Harakaľ on his promotion to Professor today and I thank him for his work which has made a significant impact on the scientific research domain. This shows that our military education is at a high level, be it in pedagogical, research or scientific activities.”
In his remarks during the promotion ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Slovak President Andrej Kiska said: “Your promotion reflects the quality of your pedagogical, research and scientific activities. At the same time, it means a commitment for the future that in your further pedagogical work you will not only guide your students in gaining deeper insights into the world, but also incite their curiosity to look for answers to questions that remain unanswered thus far. Approach them with great interest and treat them not only as the students they are, but as the people they are.”
Prof. Ing. Marcel Harakaľ Ph.D. has worked at the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš since 1989. Over his professional career, he has lectured on information technologies, computer systems, and military radio systems. He was the guarantor for the Computer Systems, Networks and Services undergraduate study programme. Today, Prof. Harakaľ is Chairman of the Board of Editors for Science & Military, an international military journal and Guarantor for the Communication and Information Technology KIT IEEE Conference. He is a recipient of the Microsoft Schools Information Technologies Development Award and a recipient of several medals awarded by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
