Official statement of the SVK MOD on the false information in the commentary by Dag Daniš

The SVK Ministry of Defence raises objections to the false and misleading information published in todayʼs commentary by Dag Daniš: On supersonics Danko comes up against the Smer party’s resistance. In the commentary, the author works with his own assumptions and false information, without officially verifying them.

It is absolute nonsense that the current MOD leaders are trying to invest in Russian jets. On the contrary, based on the extensive analyses on supersonics by aviation, SVK Air Force and MOD armaments experts, the MOD has prepared a solution for the future of supersonics, to be submitted to the SVK Security Council and the Cabinet for consideration. The MOD is committed to proposing the most effective solution, whilst taking account of the SVK Armed Forcesʼ operational requirements, price, quality, capabilities, logistics, crew training, and flight safety.

As per the agreements with the US and Swedish governments, the SVK MOD must maintain confidentiality on the bids unless and until they have been evaluated and decided on by the SVK Cabinet. As a result, at this point it is impossible to release a precise breakdown of the bids in terms of prices and economic benefits. We would like to emphasise that the information and comparisons published by Dag Daniš are in no way based on true facts. Needless to say, the document to be forwarded to the Cabinet has been reviewed by the Value for Money Unit, of the SVK Ministry of Finance.

The MOD rejects the claims that it wants to keep the Russian fighter jets operational as long as possible. We would like to emphasise once again that we will come up with the most effective solution and submit it to the Cabinet. The information that the jets will be expensive, with the operational costs running high and the financial arrangements being disadvantageous, and that there will be a need to pour additional millions of euros into the old ones is absolute nonsense, to which we strongly object.
