MOD service personnel and civilian employees commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising and Constitution Day

MOD service personnel and civilian employees today (28 August 2018) joined a ceremonial gathering to mark the 74th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) and the 26th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic.

On the SNP anniversary, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Even after so many decades the message of the Slovak National Uprising remains topical and clear: Rise up against violence and say no to fascism. We should approach the SNP events with respect. All the memorials, be they in small villages or cities, bearing the names of the heroes who laid down their lives for our better future, are a reminder of the fact that nobody gave us freedom for free.”

With the 26th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic approaching, he reminded that the adoption of the Constitution had meant that democratic values and guarantees of free life were made available to every citizen lucky enough to be living in Slovakia.
