MOD to showcase the 8x8 IFV prototype at high visibility events this weekend

The Ministry of Defence will showcase the 8x8 IFV prototype at two high visibility events this weekend. It will be on display at the SVK Parliament Building during this yearʼs Parliament Open Day in Bratislava on Saturday and at the Slovak International Air Fest (SIAF) at Sliač Air Base on Sunday. Earlier on Wednesday, the prototype was introduced to the public at the nation-wide SNP commemorations in Banská Bystrica.

 
SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “We want members of the public to see the outcome of work by our specialists who have done their share of R&D on the vehicle. For me, it is important that most of this product will be manufactured by our Slovak companies and we want to get this message across to people.” He went on to stress that if we want to have modern armed forces capable of guaranteeing security to citizens, it is necessary to have advanced 21-century equipment.
 
The 8x8 IFV prototype has been tested to all aspects of the proposed technical and design adjustments (the so-called ʽtechnical and organizational measuresʼ). After trialling the adjustments, a Trials Report was completed in order to be evaluated by the Project Team and the Steering Committee. Based on their feedback, a document proposing the next stages of the 8x8 IFV programme will enter the legislative process and will be made available to the SVK Cabinet and the Security Council for deliberations.
