Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) troops will practise their procedures along with their allied teams for Sampling and Identification of Chemical Agents (SICA) at Ex Toxic Valley 2018 this year too. Traditionally, this exercise with CBRN capabilities will be held at the CBRN Training and Testing Centre Zemianske Kostoľany, with the training audience arriving from 12 countries and 3 NATO training institutions. The aim of the exercise, slated for 10-21 September 2018, is to practise standard operating procedures and techniques for SICA teams and deployable labs with the use of real toxic chemical substances.
On Ex Toxic Valley 2018, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “International Ex Toxic Valley 2018 is one of the opportunities to practise the capabilities of our CBRN troops, while collaborating with specialists from other countries in response to CBRN incidents. And thanks to our unique testing facility in Zemianske Kostoľany, this all can be done with real toxic chemical substances.”
On the risk of a CBRN hazard, Chief of Defence Lt Gen Daniel Zmeko said: “In recent times, it has been clearly demonstrated that the threat of toxic chemical substances is real, not to mention their combat use. Therefore, our specialists train shoulder-to-shoulder with their colleagues from abroad to be ready to respond to similar incidents. Sharing of experience is the basis of success in this dynamically changing era.”
Taking part in Toxic Valley 2018 will be military observers from the participating countries. A total of 119 Allied and 92 Slovak troops will deploy on the exercise in Zemianske Kostoľany. In addition to members of the SVK Armed Forces, Slovakia will also be represented by experts from the National Criminal Agency (NAKA).
