Based on a Cabinet-approved proposal, Slovak President Andrej Kiska today (20 September 2018) promoted GS Col Martin Michalko, GS Col Jaroslav Polák and GS Col Peter Turský to the most junior general officer rank of “Brigadier General”.
According to Slovak President and Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces Andrej Kiska, todayʼs promotions reflect the exceptional readiness of the promoted to staff the positions they were entrusted with and are a recognition of their work for the benefit of the Slovak Armed Forces. “I am convinced that active duty service in the Armed Forces is not only a profession but also a mission. It is you, the Armed Forces, and military leaders who deliver one of the most important tasks of the State – security for our citizens,” he said.
Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Promotion to a general officer rank is an explicit recognition of work of professional soldiers. They serve not only in favour of the Armed Forces but also in favour of the Slovak Republic as a whole. And this is a way how we can express our thank you to them for their quality and conscientious performance of duties, even well over and above what normally might be their official working time.”
Brigadier General Michalko said: “This day is an important milestone in our career, but this would not be possible if not for the support and help of our subordinates and the responsible leadership of our superiors. That is why we want to reassure you that we will act to the best of our knowledge and ability, which we have developed during our military careers, in favour of the Slovak Republic and in the interest of preserving its defence capabilities and democratic values.”
