Czechoslovakia came into existence 100 years ago, Service personnel of both States commemorate this landmark milestone together in Prague

The 100th anniversary celebrations of the founding of Czechoslovakia have culminated today (28 October) in Prague. Among the highlights was a military parade in which members of the Army of the Czech Republic were joined by SVK personnel with their ground and air assets. In attendance at the centenary celebrations was the Slovak state delegation, including Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš.

On this landmark milestone, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “The period leading up to the foundation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic is one of the most decisive milestones in our history. That is why I am very happy that we commemorate the moments that have fundamentally shaped our history, be that today here in Prague or on 30 October in Martin where we will mark the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Martin Declaration.”

Todayʼs official programme commenced with an act of commemoration at the National Monument on Vítkov Hill. Members of the public were treated to a large military parade, a flypast of aircraft, and a static display of armaments, equipment and clothing.
