MOD civilian and military staff assembled at the MOD Club to observe Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day, reminiscing about 17 November 1989.
Reflecting on the happenings over the past year, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Democracy is a frame whose content is made up by us, people. And if we are to hit democracy below the belt as has been the case this year, we and our children cannot expect to have better conditions for life, as used to be the case in the past.”
Minister Gajdoš then underlined the role of the SVK Armed Forces in protecting democracy. “Over the past 25 years, soldiers, you have reassured people through your responsible work and accomplished missions that you have been one of the pillars of our democratic State. Now I ask you to always remember that our task is to protect democracy and preserve its principles,” he added.
