P. Gajdoš: Biathletes Paulína and Ivona Fialková have our full support, it is absolutely unjustifiable that they are banned from representing Slovakia

Members of the Military Sports Centre DUKLA Banská Bystrica Paulína and Ivona Fialkové have the full support of Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports Martina Lubyová. This information was confirmed in their joint media statement ahead of todayʼs Cabinet meeting.

Commenting on the ban imposed by the Disciplinary Commission of the Slovak Biathlon Association, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “It is absolutely unjustifiable that they are banned from representing our country.” He went on to add that the sportswomen of the Military Sports Centre have received training throughout the entire year and have been led to believe that they would be on the Slovak National Team. “A lot of money has been invested in their training and teams. The Slovak Biathlon Association should take this into consideration. I trust common sense will prevail.”

In her response, Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports Martina Lubyová said: “Participation of our sportswomen in National representation is in our public interest. Their training has been massively funded from the public resources – that is to say, from the tax payersʼ money. Thwarting their efforts to represent Slovakia is unacceptable. Therefore, we call on the Slovak Biathlon Association not to hinder the sportswomen’s participation in  National representation.”
