Slovakia’s NATO EOD/C-IED Trust Fund for Ukraine Project enters practical phase

Following the signature of international contractual documents between NSPA and Ukraine and the SVK MOD and NSPA, the Slovak Republic is now ready to go ahead with the practical phase of the NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal/Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (EOD/C-IED) Trust Fund for Ukraine Project, where it is the Lead Nation. There is currently over €600,000 in the EOD/C-IED Trust Fund, with contributions from Slovakia and 9 NATO countries.

Speaking about Allied assistance to Ukraine in the field of EOD/C-IED, SVK Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “The NATO EOD/C-IED Trust Fund for Ukraine is an expression of our solidarity to allies as well as a testament to our capabilities to contribute to building security in a country that has been caught up in conflict to date.”

As he explained, the aim of the project, which is to last for the next 2 years, is to develop EOD/C-IED doctrines in accordance with NATO procedures and to provide EOD/C-IED training activities for experts, as well as civilian support.

At present, there are several NATO Trust Funds for Ukraine, with different Lead Nations (LNs) at the helm. Thanks to its high quality expertise, the Slovak Republic decided to lead the project in collaboration with the NATO COEs in Trenčín (SVK), Madrid (ESP) and Ingolstadt (DEU).

Among the donors to the SVK-led NATO EOD/C-IED Trust Fund for Ukraine are: Slovakia, Montenegro, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Romania, United States of America, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Finland, too, has expressed its interest in making a contribution to the Fund.
