Minister Gajdoš holds video conference calls with soldiers serving abroad over this festive period

Today (21 December) Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš and Deputy Chief of Defence Maj Gen Josef Pokorný held video conference calls with soldiers serving abroad in support of international crisis management (ICM) over this festive period.

On SVK servicemen and women on ICM missions and operations, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Thanks to their efforts and commitment as well as responsible approach and quality work, our men and women in the Armed Forces have proved that our little Slovakia, too, can help in crisis regions throughout the world, for which they are deserving of our respect and thank you.” He went on to add: “I am very pleased we can support them in this way too, and, at the same time, reassure them we have genuine respect for their work.”

Commanders of the Slovak Contingents (SLOVCONs) deployed abroad provided the defence minister with updates on the status of the tasks they had performed on international crisis management missions and operations throughout 2018. And they also reaffirmed their resolve to carry out their duties in 2019 with the same responsibility and full commitment as thus far. On the Christmas festivities, they said they would be reminded of Christmas at home by at least enjoying traditional Slovak Christmas meals.

Currently, 482 SVK personnel are involved in ICM missions and operations. Over 18,600 SVK personnel have served abroad to date.
