Nearly 120 service members were on duty over the period from 23 December 2018 to 1 January 2019, to keep the public safe and secure. Following the Cabinet’s decision on joint military and police patrolling, they joined with policemen to carry out tasks in support of public order, life, health and property protection, and the fight against terrorism and organised crime.
Over the period, Levice-based 13th Mechanised Battalion members were involved in the activity of riot police within the remit of the Regional Police Directorate Bratislava. Their mission mainly included maintaining public order. The collaboration between the Armed Forces and the Police Corps on police duties demonstrates that the role of military personnel in shaping Slovakia’s security environment is significant.
SVK Armed Forces personnel were assigned for this purpose in response to the current security situation in the world following the Cabinet’s decision of 19 December 2018, consistent with the Police Corps Act.
