The NATO International Secretariat cited the joint SVK-POL training on repairs and maintenance of Soviet-era military equipment in Iraq as a model of support for Alliance efforts in the country. This was stated during a meeting of NATO allies, as the SVK-POL cooperation drew to a close in Iraq.
As part of two instructor courses, the countries succeeded in training 76 personnel. Of them, 6 will serve as train-the-trainers and share their expertise of repairs of T-72 tanks and BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles with Iraqi service members.
The cooperation between Slovakia and Poland was highly commended by the NATO International Secretariat. Its representatives confirmed that valuable lessons learned from the training will be applied across the recently launched non-combat NATO Mission Iraq (NMI).
