State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Róbert Ondrejcsák received the Ambassador of Ukraine to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Yurii Mushka, at SVK MOD Main Building today (15 February 2019). The partners discussed practical cooperation on EOD/C-IED. In this respect, Slovakia is the Lead Nation (LN) in the NATO-Ukraine Trust Fund for EOD/C-IED. They also addressed regional cooperation and Ukraine’s involvement in PESCO projects. Ambassador Mushka informed Secretary Ondrejcsák that Ukraineʼs pro-EU and pro-NATO direction has been enshrined in the UKR Constitution.
Secretary Ondrejcsák confirmed that Slovakia remains a long-time advocate of SVK-UKR cooperation on defence and EU/NATO integration. Slovakia views its defence engagement with Ukraine on explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and counter-improvised explosive devices (C-IED) as a long-term project, one that will go well beyond the NATO-Ukraine Trust Fund timeframe, depending on future UKR requirements and available capacities. He further underlined that the Slovak Republic supports the involvement of third countries in EU PESCO projects, but the level of their participation must first be agreed by EU authorities.
