P. Gajdoš: Agreement concerning Cooperation in the Military Field between SVK MOD and UAE MOD is a significant step in support of Slovak defence industry

The cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the United Arab Emirates on security, defence and armaments industry may grow from strength to strength also thanks to the new Agreement concerning Cooperation in the Military Field between the SVK MOD and the UAE MOD, signed by SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and UAE Minister of State for Defence Affairs Mohammed Al Bawardi today (18 February 2019) in Abu Dhabi. The official visit of the SVK delegation to the UAE coincides with IDEX 2019 Abu Dhabi.

On the Defence engagement between the Slovak Republic and the United Arab Emirates, SVK Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “Thanks to the new bilateral agreement, we can continue to mutually facilitate the development of our cooperation in the fields of training, education and defence industry. I am convinced that the official support for the cooperation between Slovak defence producers and our partners from the United Arab Emirates will be beneficial to both countries.” He added that the Agreement creates new opportunities and prospects for ramping up activities in the fields of defence policy, armed forces development, military technical cooperation, mine clearance, military medicine, and military sports and culture.

During the bilateral meeting, Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš appreciated the UAE’s interest in SVK military training facilities, which is evidenced by two visits thus far of UAE delegations to the Training Centre Lešť. In this respect, he also presented the capabilities of the TC Lešť as well as those of the National EOD Centre Nováky.

Minister Gajdoš updated His Excellency Mohammed Al Bawardi on how Slovakia is performing its NATO commitments, its intent to meet 2% of GDP on defence by 2022, and the ongoing systemic and systematic modernization of the SVK Armed Forces, aligned to the 2030 Long-Term Defence Development Plan.

The bilateral meeting took place on the occasion of the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2019. Both the SVK MOD and SVK defence producers are represented at IDEX 2019. To follow through on the commitments spelled out in the Slovak Government and Slovak National Party (SNS) Manifestos, the SVK MOD fully supports the domestic defence industry as it reaches out to global markets.
