Minister Gajdoš meeting with Czech Ambassador Tomáš Tuhý

Today (21 February 2019), Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš met with the Czech Ambassador to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Tomáš Tuhý, at MOD Main Building for talks on Slovakia’s Defence engagement with the Czech Republic as well as on their potential cooperation in the field of defence industry. Also discussed was the stand-up of the joint V4 EU BG, training, and the preparations for the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Czech Republic’s entry into NATO.

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Ambassador Tuhý and I agree that our relations in the field of defence and security go well above and beyond what would normally be viewed as a standard scope of cooperation, which we have also acknowledged not only at our bilateral meetings but also at those in the V4, EU and NATO formats.”

On this occasion, the minister praised the CZE Air Force’s planned participation in a joint flypast to honour the centenary since the tragic death of General M. R. Štefánik. He also highlighted the SVK-CZE cooperation being forged on enhancing the education, logistics and interoperability of SVK and CZE armed forces.

At the meeting, they discussed how to take their joint EU PESCO projects forward. In this respect, Minister Gajdoš appreciated the Czech Republic’s observer status in Slovakia’s EuroArtillery project and informed the Ambassador about Slovakia’s involvement in Czechia’s Electronic Warfare Capability and Interoperability Programme for Future Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (JISR) Cooperation, where Slovakia is an observer.
