On the occasion of the 15th pan-European ‘Museums and Galleries at Night 2019’ festival, the Museums of Military History in Piešťany and Svidník will be open to the public for free on Saturday (18 May 2019) until 22.00pm.
As Director of the Institute of Military History Col Miloslav Čaplovič said, visitors to the museums will have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the work outcomes of museum employees and see first-hand the upgraded exhibition displays presenting the key milestones of Slovak military history, including the life story of General Milan Rastislav Štefánik as a scientist, a soldier and a diplomat.
The Museum of Military History – Museum Section Svidník has prepared a rich cultural programme for this Saturday. Visitors to the museum will be able to watch WW1 and WW2 documentaries and feature films and see dynamic demonstrations of close combat and operations with the use of training munitions by members of the 2nd Mechanised Brigade Prešov, MP dog handlers, and static and dynamic displays of military tracked and wheeled hardware.
The Museum of Military History – Museum Section Piešťany will offer a panel exhibition on the Slovak legionaries who fought in WW1 and displays of weapons, munitions, equipment and uniforms from the Military History Clubs in Slovakia, and other 3D exhibits. During the festival in Piešťany, visitors will have a chance to learn more about the work of service personnel directly from members of the Slovak Armed Forces Personnel Office.
