The SVK Ministry of Defence announces that U.S. Army convoys will move across Slovakia in support of Ex Saber Guardian 2019 from 22 May to 6 June 2019 and subsequently from 21 to 27 June 2019. Several hundred vehicles, carrying crews and equipment, will be divided into convoys and move across our territory over the given period.
The U.S. troops are set to depart from Germany and head for various locations of the exercise in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Based on the current request, the allies will receive the so-called Host Nation Support (HNS) from the Slovak Armed Forces as well as Military Police escorts during the vehicle road moves.
The SVK Armed Forces will use the opportunity to practise providing support to allied troops during their movement across the territory of Slovakia. For example, this covers parking lots, short-time accommodation, toilets and showers, refuelling points, vehicle repair, and medical support.
Saber Guardian 2019 will take place in Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. SG19, led by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR), will bring together approx. 27,000 troops. The aim of the exercise is to improve the level of interoperability of Allied troops and strengthen the regional security situation, while individual exercises will mainly focus on exercising different tactical operations. Saber Guardian was also conducted in 2017.
