Successful certification of SLOVCON’s 4th rotation to eFP Latvia

A two-week deployment to a training area of members of 1st Mechanised Company, Mechanised Battalion Nitra, along with assigned units, which will represent the 4th rotation of the Slovak Contingent (SLOVCON) to enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) in Latvia, culminated with a successful certification at the Training Centre Lešť on 22-23 May 2019.

The Combat Readiness Evaluation (CREVAL) Team Leader, Lt Col Jozef Csáky, of Topoľčany-based HQ Mechanised Brigade, confirmed that the deployment and certification exercise, which took place as part of a company-level tactical exercise, assisted by the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES 2000), proved that the readiness of soldiers was good.

Lt Col Jozef Csáky said: “This is a unit where almost 1/3 of all soldiers have enlisted into the Slovak Armed Forces over the past two years. As a result, they need more practical experience. Before deploying on the exercise, they did well in a coordination check. During the exercise itself, which unfolded, more or less, in uninterrupted rain, they took control of and assumed defensive positions at Ash Tree Hill. Having regrouped at night, they carried out another mission – an attack at the Oremland Fighting in Built-up Areas (FIBUA) Range. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, they handled all tasks well in sludgy mud, though some shortcomings were revealed in the activity of soldiers and their leaders. But we still have half a year ahead of us to correct them before departing to Latvia. The unit was declared COMBAT READY.”

Members of the Mechanised Battalion Nitra want to earn a good reputation for the Slovak Armed Forces after two rotations of troops from the Mechanised Battalion Martin to eFP in Latvia.
