Military Police adopts preventive measures to eliminate crime across Defence

The SVK Ministry of Defence, working in cooperation with the SVK Military Police, has adopted a number of measures to eliminate crime across Defence. In essence, the focus of the measures is on putting crime prevention into practice. This announcement was made by Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš and Director of the SVK Military Police Col Michal Migát during a press conference at the SVK MOD today (24 May 2019).
Minister of Defence Peter Gajdoš said: “In this connection, we have adopted several internal rules and regulations as well as new methodical guidance on the control of activities done by individual components of the SVK MOD, which is aimed at bringing the number of illegal offences down and eliminating any recurrence of such activity.” As he further added, the measures include a change to the MP organizational structure, the centralisation of information flow, the establishment of the Central Operations Centre, and more patrolling.
Director of the SVK Military Police Col Michal Migát emphasised that, thanks to the Military Police Amendment Act, the tasks and powers of military policemen have been extended, contributing to more efficient performance of service duties and improving the security environment across Defence, he said: “Over the past two years the SVK Military Police has undergone significant organizational changes, strengthening the direct conduct of operations and increasing the number of patrols across military units and districts. This has reduced the reaction time to incidents in handling exceptional situations.”
The Director of the SVK Military Police added: “Over the past year the number of MP patrols has gone up by 30 per cent, and so has the number of inspections on munitions depots and facilities of special importance, and we also perform duties at the Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš. As a result of the preventive measures, the crime rate has gone down across Defence.”
