Preparations for military parade are culminating

Final preparations for the military parade to mark the 75th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising on 29 August 2019 in Banská Bystrica are culminating these days. The Armed Forces will parade their capabilities for the public and confirm their readiness to guarantee the security of SVK citizens, while at the same time paying tribute to the memory of our predecessors who stood up, with arms in their hands, against Nazis in an armed uprising.

DCHOD/COS and Parade Commander Maj Gen Miroslav Lorinc said: “These days the Slovak Armed Forces are into their final phase of preparations for the military parade. We are fine-tuning the marching columns of soldiers into a single massive formation at the Training Centre Lešť and drivers of vehicles are doing parade practice at the Tactical Wing at Sliač Air Base, so that everything fits together.”

As Deputy Commander of the Combat Service Support Brigade Trenčín Col Róbert Kecsö added, over 1,700 soldiers are participating in the parade practice at Lešť, including those who are coordinating the preparation efforts. The soldiers are staying in four military field camps at Lešť.

The preparation of soldiers for the ceremonial military parade will culminate with a practice run through of the parade on the night of 27 August, so that the movement of local residents and visitors to Banská Bystrica is restricted to a minimum extent possible. More details will be provided by the MOD soon.

Service personnel from the SVK Army, Air Force, Special Operations Forces, Military Police, and cadets of the Armed Forces Academy Liptovský Mikuláš will be represented at the parade. Over 200 military assets, including 15 aircraft, will be involved. Aerial displays will be staged by 5th Special Forces Regiment paratroopers and SVK Air Force parachutists.
