P. Gajdoš: Service members can find what they need at military warehouses

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš and General Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Ján Hoľko visited the Central Issue Facility of the Slovak Armed Forces in Nemšová. On this occasion, they presented the progress in supplying military clothing to service members and refuted the doubts that there are shortages of clothing items in the Armed Forces.

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “As a serviceman I knew the problems associated with warehousing procurement and clothing issuance. After taking office as Minister of Defence, one of my ambitions was to change it. Today, I can say that we have managed to do so and our servicemen and women can find what they need at the warehouses.” He further explained that clothing items are available to service members not only at the Central Issue Facility in Nemšová, but also at the other 18 military warehouses located across Slovakia where they can be purchased in accordance with the current Dress Regulations.

General Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Ján Hoľko pointed out that over the past three and a half years the MOD has purchased 100 per cent more clothing items than compared to the previous period. He further said: “We have also changed the Dress Regulations and every soldier is now entitled to Service Dress, rather than only to Field Dress. We have also amended the existing legislation to prevent any misuse of uniforms.” To illustrate the volume of uniform and clothing items supplied, he said they include 115,000 pcs of Field Dress, 55,000 pcs of short-sleeved shirts, 103,000 pcs of thermal underwear, 8,500 pcs of Service Dress, and 550,000 pairs of socks.

According to Commander of the Supply Base I Nemšová Lt Col Tatiana Nagyová, there is a substantial difference in the volume of supplied clothes compared to the past. “The shortages of clothing we had in the past cannot be alleviated at once, but our servicemen and women can be issued what they need today,” she added.
