Minister Gajdoš meets with Supreme Allied Commander Transformation General A. Lanata

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš met with Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) General André Lanata for talks at the Ministry of Defence today (16 September 2019). On this occasion, they reviewed how well Slovakia has so far followed through on its international commitments vis-à-vis the North Atlantic Alliance and discussed the progress made in modernising the SVK Armed Forces. On his official visit to Slovakia, General Lanata will pay a visit to the NATO Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre of Excellence (NATO EOD COE) in Trenčín.
 
Speaking at the meeting, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “The Slovak Republic is delivering on its international commitments in the military field really conscientiously, which is evidenced not only by the engagement of Slovak service members in international crisis management missions and operations, but also by the phased uplifts in spending on defence.” At the meeting, Minister Gajdoš highly commended the work results achieved by NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT).

During their meeting, Head of the MOD updated General Lanata on the progress of the modernization agenda which the MOD is taking forward in line with the Long-Term Defence Development Plan with a timeframe until 2030.

The meeting was dominated by topics of mutual cooperation within NATO. SACT General Lanata appreciated Slovakia’s project NATO-Ukraine Trust Fund for EOD/C-IED under NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine and the planned visit of the Commandant of Iraq’s Defence University for Military Studies in Baghdad to the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš under NATO’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).
