The deployment of the Rožňava-based Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Battalion to the Training Centre Lešť culminated with the Battalion’s training firings on 16-18 September 2019.
Lt Col Ján Hric, Battalion Commander and OCE, said that the aim of the training exercise was to gain experience in conducting firing tasks with the assistance of the DELOSYS C2 system, improve the coordination of MLRS operators, and for forward observers (FOs) to hone their skills in requesting artillery fire and observing and assessing its effects.
For the first time, the training exercise involved the use of the 122mm MLRS SER 70/85 Modular fitted with the latest automated C2 artillery system under the DELOSYS project.
On the DELOSYS C2 system, Coordinator of Fire Support and Chief of Artillery in the SVK Armed Forces Col Pavol Barančík said: “Thanks to this, the reaction time for initiating fire control has been cut down considerably and the superfluous errors and misunderstandings that occurred during voice tramsmission have been eradicated. I am content with the results of the firings and I am pleased that the training exercise was attended by 4th-year artillery cadets, of the Armed Forces Academy Liptovský Mikuláš, along with their teacher.”
Battalion Commander Lt Col Ján Hric thanked all those who had supported soldiers in firing 112 pcs of the 122mm JROF rockets.
