Military Forests and Estates calls on the public to show responsible behaviour across forests of Military District Záhorie

Military Forests and Estates calls on the public to show responsible behaviour across the forests of the Military District Záhorie where the hunting season for wild ungulates has been underway from September between 17.00 and 09.00 in accordance with the approved plans for raising and hunting wild ungulates. As the forests are used for outdoor recreation and picking of forest berries and mushrooms as well, Military Forests and Estates urges the public to follow all the safety rules in line with the Hunting Act and the Weapons and Ammunition Act to prevent any health- or life-threatening incidents.
Military Forests and Estates recommends that citizens enter the forests for the purposes of recreation and picking of forest berries and mushrooms during public access days between 9.00 and 17.00, except for the dates and times marked in the Slovak Armed Forces Exercise Schedule published by the MOD on its website. There is no entry into the forests during military exercises. Drivers are urged to respect no entry and no waiting signs within the forest grounds, to provide for unhindered access of rescue services in the event of an incident response or action to secure the protection of forest cover against damage caused by vehicles or waste or prevent the occurrence of forest fire.
In this connection, the public should be notified of a recent fire incident that occurred in the area called “Dry Ditch” shortly after 15.00 on Thursday 19 September 2019. A discarded cigarette butt is believed to have caused a forest fire. Although the fire was put out by firefighters, the firefighting response was made more difficult, because the forest access road was blocked by a large number of parked cars.
